Years ago it was all the rage. You threw out the old video recorders and had your tapes transferred from VHS to DVD. At the time it felt as though your memories were safe for good. But time moves on and technology changes. DVD players are now hard to find in the shops, and new laptops stopped having a drive to put a disc in long ago.

It also turns out that DVDs are not as indestructible as promised. The organic layer in cheaper discs can oxidise after 10 to 15 years. At Záloha vzpomínek we can bring the archive up to date – we handle DVD digitising and move your family treasures onto a modern USB flash drive or into the cloud.

The DVD problems nobody mentioned back then

Even discs carefully kept in their cases face several threats:

  • Physical degradation: microscopic scratches or decay of the reflective layer are enough for a player to reject the disc.
  • Incompatibility: try playing a DVD today on a new tablet or a modern television without an external player and a tangle of cables.
  • An outdated format: video on DVD is in VOB format, which is awkward to edit and does not play smoothly on every device.

How the DVD to USB transfer works

The process in our studio is quick and efficient. Bring us your old DVDs (burned or original) and we take care of extracting the data properly:

  1. Readability check: we verify the disc is not damaged and that the data reads without errors.
  2. Conversion to MP4: the DVD video is converted to the universal MP4 format at the highest possible quality – the standard for every television, phone and computer.
  3. Saving to a medium: the resulting files are saved to your USB drive or ours. Current prices are in the price list and calculator.

What updating the archive costs

As set out in our calculator, digitising one DVD costs from 250 CZK. It buys certainty that you will never lose your videos again. It also frees up a lot of shelf space – dozens of discs fit onto one small flash drive that goes in your pocket.
